Call for Entries! Our Slate Chalkboards: Remembering Callaway County’s Rural School Houses

Do you have a story to share about Callaway County rural schools? KCHS is compiling stories about Callaway’s rich history of its rural schools. Callaway County had 116 rural schools serving elementary students up until the mid-1950s. We want to hear about all of them!

What great life lessons did you learn while attending a rural school in Callaway County? Share about your day, who your teachers were, or what you liked most or least.

Three ways to submit your story –

  1. Email museum@callawaymohistory.org

  2. Drop off at the KCHS Museum, 513 Court Street, Fulton, Missouri 65251

  3. Mail to PO Box 6073, Fulton, MO 65251

The deadline for submission is now December 30, 2022.

Our Slate Chalkboards will be published in 2023. There is no entry fee for submissions. Articles may be up to 3,000 words and are subject to approval and editing by the KCHS editorial staff. Bruce Hackmann is the editor of the book.
