Callaway Heritage Day Showcases Rich History

The Kingdom of Callaway Historical Society is thrilled to announce the return of the highly anticipated Callaway Heritage Day, set to take place on Saturday, August 26, 2023. This exciting event will be held at the Callaway Electric Cooperative Grounds, 1313 Cooperative Drive, Fulton, Mo., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Callaway Heritage Day promises to be a delightful celebration of Callaway County's history, featuring various activities and attractions suitable for attendees of all ages. The event will showcase a spectacular display of tractors, cars and trucks competing for prizes in multiple classes. New this year is a Hit-and-Miss Engines class for antique internal combustion stationary gas engines known for their distinctive sound as the flywheel rotates.

Visitors can check out historical displays and indulge in delectable food from a variety of vendors, including the New Bloomfield Lions Club, Smokin Pickle, VFW-83rd Helpers, Flywheel Ice Cream and Chele's Kettle Corn.

Capture memorable moments at the photo booth, where a vintage Cushman truck will serve as a charming backdrop for your snapshots. A friendly volunteer will be available to take pictures free of charge with your camera or phone.

Children ages 12 and under can participate in a scavenger hunt with a list of items to be found on the grounds related to tractors, cars, trucks, old engines and farming. Upon completing the hunt, participants will have a chance to enter a drawing for three cash prizes.

This year, KCHS will honor the Houf Bicentennial Farm near Kingdom City. The farm was founded in 1823 within the McCredie Township by Peter Houf of Virginia and his wife, Mary Eve. The farm now includes ownership by the sixth generation of Houf's — Todd and Beth. Anyone who is interested is cordially invited to visit the original Peter Houf's house site and farm following the Callaway Heritage Day event.
