Annual Meeting

The KCHS Annual Meeting, Awards, and Program is open to the public.

This year’s even was held on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club, 2600 Meadow Lake Dr., New Bloomfield, MO. They did an outstanding job with our meal for the evening, which was inspired by the menu served to Winston Churchill during his 1946 visit to Fulton. November 30 will mark Churchill’s 150 Birthday. Tim Riley, National Churchill Museum Director, spoke about Churchill, his visit to Fulton, and the church and museum.

The KCHS annual meeting includes a business meeting and election of board members and officers held following a catered meal, with a program immediately after. Each year, the program is centered on some event or aspect of county history. We’ve had speakers and skits covering a host of historical events. Volunteers are highlighted and thanked. Membership votes are taken on major issues that affect the Society, such as bylaw changes.

Fashion and Fun

Every few years we host a Fashion and Fun event. The theme is picked, ads are sold for the booklet, fashions are chosen and volunteers are recruited. In 2019, the theme was weddings. We had wedding dresses modeled from the 1860s to the 1990s. A local collector contributed cake toppers that we used as centerpieces. Generally, the event is held on a Sunday afternoon in July. Vintage clothing and accessories from our well-stocked KCHS fashion closet as well as shared by community members are displayed and modeled. Guests purchase tickets for a fun afternoon of learning about trends and styles and have tea, sweets, and conversation.

Holiday Drawings

Each fall, two baskets are prepared and displayed, one with a Thanksgiving theme and one with a Christmas theme. Baskets might contain table runners, centerpieces, food items such as a bag of pecans and homemade jellies, napkins, and wine. Each basket is unique and worth over $200. Tickets are sold and winners are announced before each holiday. Items are donated by individuals and businesses, and all proceeds from ticket sales go into the general revenue.

Each summer from mid-June through mid-July, a silent auction is held. Items range from china to furniture and vintage to new and delicate to ornate. The items are featured in the Historical Society’s window displays. The auction ends on the third Saturday in July. Watch for more information about the items that will be up for auction.

Tractor Drive

The first tractor drive was held in August 2005. A different route in Callaway County was chosen for each event to showcase the county’s varied landscape and communities, including Mokane, Tebbetts, Williamsburg, Guthrie and New Bloomfield. Each drive averaged around 60 tractors. Many drivers came to enjoy the drive, eat a great lunch, and meet old friends. The drive was ended with homemade ice cream.
